Summer Reading?

So it's summertime again. I just stumbled across this long-forgotten project from last year and I am wondering if anyone is still interested? Maybe doing just one book for July and one book for August? I am currently reading a book every week (or so I say) and keeping a blog for that endeavor as well. So since this blog is still six followers strong . . . let me know if there's anyone out there.

Crazy Man

That's all I could think as I watched this film.

This. Guy. Is. Nuts.

It's called Man On Wire. That link will take you to the trailer, but to be perfectly honest, the movie is worth seeing so if you can stand to NOT watch the trailer I think you'll find the film to be more full of surprises. I heard about it word of mouth and just put it on- way more entertaining than I had expected.

I have a pretty intense fear of heights so I think my heart was racing for 80% of the film. If you have Netflix, it's available to watch instantly.

If you haven't figured out why I'm doing this post TAKE A LOOK AT THE FLIPPIN' BOOK WE'RE READING. My plan is to do some posts on the topic of what we're reading. That way we can all learn a little more about the subject and I save some of you from doing the extra work (I know a few of you do it yourselves anyway). Rather than leave other suggestions in the comments, email me and I'll put anything else of relevance up as a guest post- that way you're not limited to a certain number of characters. Obviously, if you can save it for the discussion, do that instead.

I'm sick in bed, does this make any sense? No proofreading, just napping.

Book 1

As promised, the first book has been chosen. Before we get to that though, I want to say thank you to the people who found the blog and voted. The consensus seems to be for every two months. I agree that pushing it to three makes it way more likely that the club could lose momentum so our first cycle will be now through October 27th. That is the day that you can expect the discussion to start online.

I will publish more information on where to go for the discussion as the date moves closer. I am trying to find the best way to do this and I hate forums. If that's what we're stuck with then that's where I'll direct you, I just want to look at some other options first.

So, with the rest of the business out of the way, here is the book we'll be starting with . . .

Let the Great World Spin by Colum McCann. Happy reading! Check back here for updates on the meeting place as well as posts related to the content of the book.

Let's Have a Vote

Exactly how busy are we all?

The original idea for this blog came to me after the death of my live book club. It would be nice to start it up again, however a lot of people have moved away or are going to be moving away. So instead, let's try the internet.

The hardest thing about the old book club was keeping it monthly. Everyone is so busy that it was quite the challenge for people to all find a copy (especially considering that we were mostly using the same library), read it, and have a meeting that the majority of members could attend. What I want to do here is to have the meetings be rolling- I'll start a topic and it will go for as long as it needs to. What I want to know is whether it should be bi-monthly or tri-monthly.

So tell me, how busy are you?

I'm opening it up for voting starting right now, ending August 25th. By that date, I will have picked the first book. I'm not going to pick the book every time- that will eventually come from a voting system or a rotation depending on how many followers we end up with.

Just use the comments section to cast your vote! Only one per person please.
